How did Egypt block the Internet? By flipping a few switches

We’ve seen governments block sites such as Twitter, YouTube and more before, but this is the first instance of a complete blockage of the Internet by a government. Egypt, as protests calling for an end to president Hosni Mubarak’s rule have gone violent, has effectively shut down access to the Internet.
