Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy S II Smartphone Answer Critics’ Questions

Samsung was the first to bring a high-profile Android tablet computer to the market last year with the Galaxy Tab. But that device was criticized for running Android 2.2, ostensibly a smartphone operating system, on a 7-inch screen. The knock was that apps running on the Tab would not be sufficiently suited for the larger screen. Samsung Mobile President J.K. Shin was peppered with questions during a media briefing at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show about when the company would launch both a larger tablet and one based on Google’s new Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS. Shin advised journalists to wait until Mobile World Congress. Well, MWC convened Feb. 13 in Barcelona, and Samsung Mobile delivered on Shin’s promise, unveiling not only the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet, but the next-generation Galaxy S smartphone, aptly named the Galaxy S II.
