Samsung was the first to bring a high-profile Android tablet computer to the market last year with the Galaxy Tab. But that device was criticized for running Android 2.2, ostensibly a smartphone operating system, on a 7-inch screen. The knock was that apps running on the Tab would not be sufficiently suited for the larger screen. Samsung Mobile President J.K. Shin was peppered with questions during a media briefing at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show about when the company would launch both a larger tablet and one based on Google’s new Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS. Shin advised journalists to wait until Mobile World Congress.
