A survey conducted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration indicates that 11 million adults in the United States ? 5 percent ? suffered from serious mental illness in the past year. More than 8 million adults had serious thoughts of suicide in the past year, 2.2 million had suicidal plans and 1 million attempted to take their own lives. – (AHN)
