About an hour ago, Comex fired out the tweet you see above, saying he might miss his self-imposed deadline for an untethered iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak for iPhone or iPod touch by Christmas. For those of you not familiar with the current “state of the jailbreak”, a lot of users (specifically iPhone 4 and newer basebands) are either stuck on 4.2.1 with a tethered jailbreak or are waiting to upgrade from 4.1 until there’s an untethered option. For most newer models, firmwares, and basebands, redsn0w is the only option and you’ll be tethered (which you may or may not [consider a hassle[(http://www.tipb.com/2010/12/20/tethered-jailbreaks-worth-hassle/)). Supposedly, a newer version will allow an easy untether process via redsn0w. Looks like we could be waiting a bit longer than expected, unless another 4.2.1 untethered solution comes along sooner.
It’s still unclear whether an untethered version is still going to require saved SHSH blobs. […]
